LIFE CHANGES

Everyone has different experiences in life. Coming to Ohio Northern made me realize just how different my college experience is from my friends and family. I have friends at Ohio State, Ohio University, Bowling Green and Toledo, to name a few schools.

Each one of our journeys are different. For example, my older brother attends Ohio University, the town of Athens and the people he is surrounded by are completely different. He goes to school with 20,000+ people. He is just a random person to most of the people on campus. Also, he has told me he barely knows his professors personally. While here, I know all my professors and speak to them every class. Being in a smaller institution, I know more of the student body than my brother. This replicates home and makes me feel like I never left my Ada like community.

One of my best friends went to a community college our first year out of high school. He would tell me stories and encounters he had. The stories are nothing like my experience here. He would have classes with people whose children were closer to his age than his classmates were. He would go home to his parents' house every day after school. The only thing that really changed for him is where he went to school, what he studied and some of the people in his classes.

It is crazy to think the people who you grew up with now have completely different lives and lifestyles. Normal to you can be wild to them and vice versa. When we all go home and meet up, I love talking about college and how different our lives are. I am forever grateful for the experiences I've had here and how they have shaped me thus far.

  1. Hi, Cade! I feel that everyone's experience and background are so different in each person when I come here. I have spent more than two weeks at ONU but I have already learned each person has a culture and they have different opinions. Therefore, I could find new perspectives from them during the two weeks. I think the experiences at ONU will be different for each student and actually, I'm excited to find new things from others as well.

  2. It really is crazy how different of an experience people can get from the one we are getting. Similar to you, a lot of my friends go to much bigger public universities and hearing their experiences always is interesting to me.

  3. Life changes are weird for sure, especially as we get older! When we're young our lives are as similar to our peers as they can be. Same neighborhood, same school and same general experiences. But then we reach a point at the end of high school where everybody's paths diverge in every which direction. Some end up like us at a small private school, others go to mega-universities where the campus is a city in itself, and others go straight into the workforce. We all change with time. It is just interesting to see who we are from the outside looking in.

  4. It is an oddly beautiful but disconsolate feeling when thinking of how much life changes. ONU is a very unique campus where the community makes this university special. Other campuses do not carry this feeling often, as students are met with an impossible task to meet over 20,000 students. It is great that you are able to hold more gratitude toward this university through your peers experiences at other places..
