Your Online Brand

At different points in your life, you will have different uses for social media. My brother is a graduate assistant for Ohio University men's basketball team, his use for social media is professional networking and sharing basketball content. My mom uses social media to post about her life and her kids. My grandpa gets his news mainly from social media. At some point in each of their lives they had a completely different use for social media.

As your use for social media shifts so does your posts. When you search your name on google photos will come up that you either you posted, or you were tagged in. If you post a lot about a certain topic or dressed a certain way, when you search your name, those results are more likely to appear. The only way to get new or updated pictures of you on your google search is to update all your profile pictures, until you like what you see on the google search. This is better explained in Section 2 of Chapter 2.

I generally had no idea how google decided what photographs appear when you type your name is. Right now, most of my information and pictures are of me in high school or here at ONU participating in sports. I think that is acceptable search results for where I am in my life. However, as I transition into my professional career I will not to leave behind that online brand image. I will want to create more of a professional look for myself. I will use it to my advantage to create a positive self-image now and in the future when I am ready to enter the workforce.
