Opportunity is endless
Friday I am leaving Ada and traveling to Athens, Ohio. My brother is graduating with his undergraduate degree from Ohio University on Saturday. Where I am from high school graduation is maybe an hour and a half long, this is due to only having around 60 people per grade. I was just informed by my mother that my brothers college ceremony will be a significant amount longer than our high school graduations. This is unfortunate because I absolutely despise sitting still for long periods of time.
My grandpa was always very adamant that us three grandkids went to college and got degree's. I disagreed with him, we sat and argued this topic many times. I didn't want to go to college to prove him wrong. Thankfully, I gave in and went to college. Even though I am three semesters into college I can see the value of this decision for my life and for my brothers.
My brother is not only getting his undergrad, but he is also already accepted into graduate school and is starting after the first of the year. He is a graduate assistant on the Ohio University's mens basketball coaching staff. This means he gets to learn from great coaches while getting his graduate school paid for. This is a life changing opportunity for him. This has also showed me the value of going to college, not just for the education but for the relationships that are built.
I had the same shock and frustration a few years ago going to my cousins graduation. My high school only graduates around 120, but his around 900. Easy to say I was trapped. Hope you enjoyed the time with family and good luck with finals!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm from a really small high school that typically graduate 35-50 students, so graduations are typically a breeze. I was in a similar situation to you when I attended my sisters college graduation when I learned how extensive and long college graduations are.
ReplyDeleteI saw your brother at the Ohio University basketball game and it was very intresting watching what he did. I also despise long graduations, I went to a big high school so mine was long but no where close to college.
ReplyDeleteLong graduations are the absolute worst. Similar to you and many others in the comments I also went to a smaller high school with about 90 in my class, so had a painfully long experience at my sisters college graduation last year.
ReplyDeleteThat will be a fun experience and a great event to experience. It will feel like no time at all when we all graduate. What feels like ages away will soon become our reality. Although it might not be exciting having to sit for a long time, it will be beneficial to see a college graduation! I also will be attending my brothers this week in Tennessee.
